The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB variant releases or “goes on sale” today. But unlike the previous GPU releases, RTX 4060 Ti 16GB reviews are missing. NVIDIA didn’t seed any sample to media outlets, and board partners are not interested in seeding samples either. Not seeding samples and quietly releasing them to the market doesn’t sound good for the 16GB variant. Since no reviews or comparisons were published, we don’t know if the 16GB variant is worth the extra $100. Well, I’m certain that it’s not. Luckily, MSI recently did a live stream showcasing the performance of its RTX 4060 Ti Gaming X Slim 16GB variant. More details are below.
MSI Tested and Compared RTX 4060 Ti 16GB vs. RTX 4060 Ti 8GB
The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB variant has the same exact specs and configuration as the 4060 Ti 8GB. The only real difference is that the 16GB variant has, obviously, twice the memory size, and it is $100 more expensive than the 8GB variant.
I’m not sure if NVIDIA released a 16GB variant due to criticism that the RTX 4060 series family has only 8GB memory; or if it was already planned way before NVIDIA announced/revealed the 4060 family. Either way, it doesn’t excite gamers and PC enthusiasts at all.
During MSI’s live stream, they tested an MSI RTX 4060 Ti Gaming X Slim 16GB in 6 game titles. These games are Cyberpunk 2077, F1 2023, Rainbow 6: Siege, CS:GO, Fortnite, and Hogwarts Legacy. I’m surprised they didn’t test it on Plague Tail: Requiem, Resident Evil 4, or even Last of Us. Either way, the results were surprising (not).
Compared to the 8GB variant, the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB performed similarly to the 8GB variant. Some game titles have a few fps differences, but the performance is generally the same. They did get higher FPS on CS:Go with the 16GB variant; that’s why it was a missed opportunity that they didn’t test the card with game titles that require more VRAM.
Nevertheless, I don’t think the 16GB is worth the extra $100. Especially since its VRAM has a gimped configuration and the 4060 only uses PCIe x8. Instead of getting an RTX 4060 Ti 16GB, the RTX 4070 is a more sensible option. The RTX 4070 is generally faster (about 30%), doesn’t have a gimp memory config, and uses a full PCIe x16 interface.

Overall, I think the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB shouldn’t exist, and it’s just a waste. You can watch MSI’s live stream below.
